Thirteen is a coming of age story about a boy, his mom, a cop, and a city under seige. Jack is woken by the sound of gunfire as foreign soldiers have invaded his hometown cutting off the power, shutting down communications, and restricting travel. Jack and his mom have to learn how to survive in a world where modern conviences are taken away with no options to replace them. 

 

Jack struggles with being the child of a recent divorce, a boy on the cusp of becoming a man and a system that he instinctively rebels against. Will Jack become the man he wants to be and what will he discover about himself in his struggle for independence? 

 

A YA novel for advanced tween readers, teens, boys and girls in grades 5-9 and is about a boy who is very much like them and their friends living in a town similar to theirs during a time when war is a reality not just a terrorist threat or a government tool of fear.
