I'm Pakistani-American. I was born in India, raised in California, and now live in New York. I'm a professional comedian, writer, and producer. I was a scholarship kid, and I was always kind of funny. So I wanted to make people laugh. I made a lot of money doing stand-up, but I got into television production. I was making a TV show, I was producing the show. I had a really bad year. I got sick and I was in the hospital a lot. I developed something called panic disorder. I thought I was dying a lot. I stopped working. I was just in bed, not eating. I put on 100 pounds. Then I got back into stand-up, and I got into the writing community. I started doing a bunch of podcasts. My stand-up career kicked in again, and I started working with improv groups in New York. I was working with these people. I got on a little bit of TV. But it wasn't really enough to sustain a full-time comedy career. And that's when I got the itch to work on another screen project, and that's when I started writing Silicon Valley.
